User Interface Ideas from 1993 by Raymond

Found this user interface guidline today, and despite being created at the dawn of commercial internet use, I think we can all learn from it.

I’m still trying to locate the best colors (RGB encoding preferred) for reading text in terminal windows. I heard it was blue and yellow, but I must know!

Looking for a Job? Internship? Iowa?!? by Raymond

Actually, that’s a little bombastic. Hey everyone, I just wanted to give you a little tip about some upcoming work opportunities.

I’ve been working with a consulting company called Zirous (formerly CISCO Inc.) that is based out of Des Moines. I just found out that they are starting a new branch in Minneapolis and are doing some hiring. The full-time positions require some Oracle background (that’s what they do, Oracle consulting), but there is an internship open in Iowa. Check it out.

They’re a solid company, and have been doing great work. To be honest, the consulting lifestyle is pretty attractive if you’re not tied down. You travel, get expenses paid, go on-site and do some great networking with other companies.

You will notice the site has a new section called events. You should periodically look there for (obviously) the events that the Math and Computer Science club will be hosting/attending. Firefox Extension: Live HTTP Headers by Raymond

One of my coworkers nicked my copy of FirefoxPortable for some Windows Authentication Testing. I had it preinstalled with a few of my favorite extensions: Webdeveloper, Firebug, CSSViewer, and Colorzilla (I know I could link, but don’t you know how to Google?). However, when she asked me how to view the HTTP headers, I noticed a strange option in her tools bar. I didn’t know what it was part of, and I think she didn’t either.

Turns out she, or the software elves who come in the night, downloaded an extension I had never heard of called Live HTTP Headers. It allows you to pop up a window that will capture HTTP Headers as you troll the net.

Granted, Firebug has a similar function, but this one is about 18 times as easy to set up and doesn’t require part of your browsing window to operate. Anyways, test it out and let me know what your opinions are. Myself, I’m just basking in the experience.

Well, maybe not basking, but I do feel pretty warm. Maybe that’s the feeling of Christmas welling inside. Who says my heart is two sizes too small?
